The consequences of the virus attacks: the NBU came out to support Ukraine’s currency market intervention

Today, 29 June 2017, the national Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has implemented a currency intervention on a single rate for smoothing functioning of the currency market – this need arose due to virus attack.

“In connection with the recent cyber attack, the number of banks was limited, which affected the functioning of the interbank foreign exchange market and distorted the exchange rate. Therefore, the national Bank decided to maintain the functioning of the foreign exchange market through foreign exchange intervention “, – said Deputy head of the NBU Oleg Ciurea are also presented.
 
To facilitate the work of the foreign exchange market in such circumstances, the national Bank purchased at the rate of 26.07 UAH per dollar, and sold at the rate of 26.12 UAH per U.S. dollar.
 
According to the Strategy of currency interventions of the NBU for 2016-2020, foreign exchange intervention NBU on a single course is in cases when you need to give the market a clear directional reference (for example, in the case of the disorganization of the market).

With such interventions of the national Bank proportionally to satisfy the stated subjects of the market the amount of a single certain exchange rate of hryvnia to foreign currencies.

As reported earlier, the NBU, the banking system of Ukraine resumes work after hacker attacks.

We will remind, on June 27 the largest hacking attackthat spreads the virus Petya, was subjected to Ukrainian banks, energy companies, government Internet resources and local network of Ukrainian media and a number of other large enterprises.

The attacks began almost simultaneously at about 11:30. Virus that locks computer systems, spread very quickly. It manifests itself in the failure of computers on a Windows platform, your computer restarts and the virus encrypts all the data on it.

On the morning of 28 June, the press service of the Cabinet reported that large-scale cyber attack on corporate network and to the authorities of Ukraine was stopped.

However, the UN suggest that the main purpose of virus attack was not extortion.
