The new Minister of defence of the USA James Mattis believes the fundamental, the fifth article of the NATO Charter, providing for the collective defence in an attack on a member of the Alliance. He stated at the Munich security conference.
“The fifth article is the cornerstone, which we should follow,” he said.
The American Minister said that security is always better to provide a team, and that his statements were positively received in Brussels at a meeting of defense Ministers of the NATO countries.
Recall that the fifth article of the NATO Charter stipulates that an armed attack against one or more NATO countries be considered an attack against the Alliance.
