Russia and Ukraine are stuck in the conflict in the Donbass, the signing of the Minsk agreement, are not satisfied with any of the parties. However, in mock effectiveness of the Minsk blame the leaders of Western countries that officially continue to support the Minsk-2, although in private conversations acknowledge that he’s dead. This writes in his article The Economist, reports ZN.ua.
As noted, the Minsk-2, which was signed two years ago, was designed after the actual defeat of the Ukrainian army to the Russian forces. The agreement called for Russia to return to Ukraine control of the border and the occupied territories, that she will never go. At the same time, Ukraine lacks the military power and the support of the West to reclaim the territory by force. The United States refused to grant Ukraine military assistance in the form of lethal offensive and defensive weapons, leaving her to fight on their own.
Some Westerners propose to recognize Minsk-2 dead and sent to the line of demarcation peacekeeping force. Fans of this approach say that Ukraine will lose a small piece of land that she and so does not control, and thus dissociates itself from the ever chilling her focus of concern. The problem is that too many parties are interested in maintaining the status quo. Among them the presidents Petro Poroshenko and Vladimir Putin, who refuse to acknowledge the incapacity of the Minsk-2 and do not want to take responsibility for Donbass.
As noted in the article, support Poroshenko built partly on the war against Russia, and he is not interested in the vote of Donbass in the elections of 2019. The Kremlin does not want to take the contents of Donbass, and also to lose the opportunity to meddle in the Affairs of the rest of Ukraine.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald trump said that Russia must be held accountable for its actions in Crimea and the Donbass.
