Bloomberg (USA): the USA intend to expand sanctions against the “Nord stream — 2”

A group of U.S. senators from both parties proposed to extend sanctions against the pipeline “Nord stream — 2”. On 3 June, reported Bloomberg citing the bill of the Senator-Republican Ted Cruz and Democrat Genie Sahin.

It is noted that the sanctions will affect companies that insure Russian vessels involved in the completion of the project, and provide them with port services. As explained by Bloomberg, so measures can include pipelayers Academician Chersky and fortune.

The bill may be included in the national defence Act in 2021.

As said Cruz, a pipeline is a “critical threat to U.S. national security” and its construction should not be completed.

Shahin, in turn, said that “Nord stream — 2” “threatens the energy independence of Europe and Ukraine and gives Russia the opportunity to take advantage of the allies”.

In her words, “the U.S. Congress must take decisive action and get in the way of the pipeline”.

Recall, may 26, U.S. Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell confirmed Washington’s intention to impose new sanctions against the “Nord stream — 2”.
