A group of scientists from the University health system of Michigan, studied the effect of “American style diet” (high in fat) with added grapes and without grapes (the control diet) on the heart, liver, kidney, adipose tissue in obesity-prone rats.

The animals were observed for 90 days. The results showed that the three month “grape diet”, greatly improved the condition of rats with metabolic syndrome. In their bodies decreased markers of inflammation throughout the body, but most significantly in liver and abdominal fat.
Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of conditions that occur together – increased blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess fat around the waist or low HDL (good cholesterol) and raise triglycerides in the blood.
Consumption of fruits and vegetables is believed to reduce these risks, and the grapes proved to be very effective.
