How to pay for the light twice as less: important tips and real calculations

Ukrainians, according to experts, due to low tariffs for many years never thought about the savings of utility services. Over the past few years, the electricity in Ukraine increased from 36.6 to 90 cents per kWh proportionally increased and the amount of the payment. Experts believe that if to replace light bulbs and appliances, install two-band meter and monitor consumption, to pay for electricity can be 1.5 or even two times less. The website “Today” figured out how much electricity you spend, the Ukrainians and how to pay less.

How much to pay for electricity

Electricity bills for the communal, unlike heat, is insignificant, says an expert in the field of energy efficiency Anna Shumeyko. Each family can decide how much it spends on the “light”. According to the national Commission for state regulation in energy and utilities (NKREKU), electricity consumption in the last few years virtually unchanged. So, at the end of last year, 50.4 percent of families spent an average of up to 125 kWh per month, 24.1 percent used from 125 to 200 kWh and 24.9% – more than 200 kWh.

The first 100 kWh of electricity cost 90 UAH, and every next kWh to 1.68 hryvnia. That is, 200 kWh Ukrainians pay 258 USD. According to the national Commission, only 10% of Ukrainians burn more than 300 kWh of electricity. Most often it is families who have installed electric stoves, boilers and use electric heating.

“We live in a new building near Kiev. We have no gas at all. I use a hob with two burners, electric boiler 80 liters and a washing machine. Heating we have a centralized, but weak, and in the colder months you have to “warm up” with electricity – this winter used the heater 2 kW. In the summer I spend 250 – 300 kWh per month, and in winter was more”, – says a resident of Kiev region Elena.

In January of this year she has spent 695 kWh. And the cost of electricity is 70% in the payment for utilities.

According to Anna Shumeiko, electric boiler and heating is cheaper than Central heating and hot water. However, the rush to install a boiler, the expert advises. To determine exactly how and how much you can save, is to hire a professional energy auditor, I’m sure Shumeyko.

“We need each family to independently calculate how much energy it expends, and what you can save. For example, compared with its neighbors. Generally in the EU countries even on the street can meet the offices of energy auditors that will help you calculate how and what you can save,” – says Anna Shumeyko.

Most energy wasting refrigerator, describes a professional energy auditor, the ESCO, DTEK Sergey Svistun. On average, it “eats” from 30 to 70 kWh. If every day for an hour to use the electric stove, the counter can wrap about 50 kWh per month. At the same time, even a modern TV, if you use no more than five hours every day for a month is unlikely to wound more than 20 kW*h (33,6 hryvnia in consumption more than 100 kWh).

“The most energy-consuming household appliances: refrigerator, stove (if it is), microwave, washing machine, oven, kettle (coffee maker). Also consume a lot of electricity TV, lights, computer, air conditioning, iron, music center. But it all depends on brand, year of production, energy efficiency class, quantity, etc”, – says Sergey Svistun.

How to pay two times less

Experts are sure that Ukrainianainty can spend on the light in half. It is best to start with a very simple – to replace light bulbs in the apartment. The first is to buy energy efficient indoor lamp where the most light – the kitchen, the room where a TV, etc. But to buy expensive energy-efficient light bulb in the toilet was not worth it. Given that light there’s not often such purchase may be recouped for many years.

Standard LED lamp with a power of 10 watts gives as much light as a conventional bulb is 85 watts. It can cost about 70 USD. To replace 7 light bulbs in a Studio apartment, you will need to 500 UAH (for one lamp in the kitchen, in the bathroom, hallway and bathroom, and three on the chandelier in the room).

If the lamp power of 75 W in the hallway for two hours a day, in the toilet – an hour in the bathroom 3 hours in the kitchen – 5 hours in the room – 6 hours per month only for “light” typed 65 kWh or 793 kWh per year. At the same time, LED lamps will spend in the same conditions is 8.7 kWh per month and 104 kWh per year. If consumption more than 100 kWh “light” with the old bulbs will cost in 1315 hryvnia per year, and with energy-saving lamps 104 of the hryvnia for the year. All the lamps under such circumstances will pay off in six months. After six months the monthly savings due to simple replacement of lamps will amount to UAH 95 and UAH 1140 per annum.

Families who use electric boiler, the experts advise to install-zone counter. Such a metering device from 23 PM to 7 am believes electricity at the rate of two times lower. This meter installation will cost around 1400 USD. For example, a family that consumes 200 kWh per month of electricity and 25% of the world uses, from 23 p.m. to 7 a.m., every month can save the 42nd hryvnia. Consequently, dual-zone meter will pay for itself in about three years. If you consume 50% of electricity at night by the more powerful electrical appliances, the payback period will be reduced twice.

How to save:

  • to turn the lights off
  • not to leave on the night included appliances
  • to tie the night the boiler
  • replace incandescent bulbs in those places where often the light is
  • to buy new equipment with high energy efficiency class

It tells the communications Manager DTEK ESKO Anton Kovalishin, energy-efficient set “Smart WATT” – 4 energy saving light bulb, socket with timer and two-band counter can you buy over 1485 UAH, which is much cheaper than buying one counter. This kit will allow you to pay for the light to 50% less.

“We recommend you to remember about the possibility of two-band installation of electricity meters. DTEK ESCO sells a set of energy-saving products “Smart WATT”, which includes two-band energy meter. In combination with energy-saving LED light bulbs, outlets with timers and rational approach, people will be able to save up to 50% on energy costs,” – say representatives of DTEK ESCOs.

Ideally, if in a month will be able to consume up to 100 kWh per month – for this amount of electricity you can pay at a lower rate.

If the consumption in the apartment, for example, will be reduced from 200 to 100 kWh per month, set Smart WATT could be recouped in less than six months, and then to save 1500 thousand UAH. a year without additional investments. If the original volume of consumption more than 200 kWh, respectively, and the payback period will be faster.

“We recommend you to remember about the possibility of two-band installation of electricity meters. DTEK ESCO sells a set of energy-saving products “Smart WATT”, which includes two-band energy meter. In Kiev, set Smart WATT is also included with an Express installation of the meter at a convenient time for the customer In conjunction with the energy saving LED light bulbs, outlets with timers and rational approach, people will be able to save up to 50% on energy costs.
