Poland will support Ukraine’s entry into the EU if the country does not solve the historical question. This statement was made head of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Poland Witold Waszczykowski in conversation with the journalist of the edition wSieci.
The Minister added that Poland can act as Greece is in a situation with the accession of Macedonia into the EU and NATO. Greece blocks Macedonia’s talks on joining the EU and NATO, oppose the sovereign of the name “Macedonia” because Greece is a historical region of the same name.
In October last year, the Polish Parliament and the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada adopted a “Declaration of memory and solidarity”. This bilateral document was to do away with the historical misunderstandings between the two countries. However this topic remains a source of conflict. In winter, the leader of the ruling party “Justice” Jaroslaw Kaczynski says “admiration for Stepan Bandera will prevent the European integration of Ukraine”.
