For travel to countries of the European Union children also need to have a biometric passport. This was reported in the Public border service of Ukraine.
“To travel to Europe without a visa, is required to have a biometric passport of the citizen of Ukraine. The same rule applies to children. In this case, the passport of the citizen of Ukraine for travel abroad of children from birth to 16 years of age is issued for a period of 4 years. After 16 years are issued a passport with full validity of 10 years. But the Ukrainians with something that not a biometric passport, need to apply for a visa. Making a document for travel abroad, please note that up to 12 years old children are not fingerprinted, however, the passport retains the status of biometric and grants permission to visa-free entry to the EU. Since 12 years this procedure is mandatory, and the signature of the child when the passport is starting from 14 years,” he told SBS.
Also in Department noted that children under 16 years do not have a right to travel unaccompanied.
“However, children aged 16 years and older are allowed to travel to Europe without visas on their own, under 16 years to travel outside of Ukraine only when accompanied by both parents or only one parent or with a trusted entity, with a notarized parental consent. Also remember, if the child is under the age of 16 years leaves with one of parents (guardians, foster parents), then you need a notarized consent of the parent (guardian, adoptive parent), – reported in state frontier service.
