If the new owners of “Prominvestbank” will increase statutory capital, invest money, it will develop, of course, there is the chance for the emergence of another major institution in the banking system of Ukraine. This opinion was expressed by candidate of economic Sciences, head of the Committee of economists of Ukraine Andriy Novak.
Commenting on the possible purchase of “Prominvestbank” Ukrainian businessmen, the expert recalled that this is the first Bank in Ukraine, which came under U.S. sanctions, and it partially paralyzed his work. However, the fact that the Ukrainian businessmen can buy belonging to Russian entities, a financial institution, it may mean the return of the Bank in the economic processes of the Ukrainian economy.
“The purchase of “Prominvestbank” may well mean the return of the Bank in the economic processes of the Ukrainian economy. Because this occurs in the context of Russian banks in the Ukrainian banking market for obvious reasons. They sell their assets in Ukraine, and it is not surprising that these assets can buy some of Ukrainian businessmen. If the new owners of “Prominvestbank” will increase statutory capital, invest money, it will develop, of course, there is the chance for the emergence of another major institution in the banking system of Ukraine”, – said Andrew Novak.
At the same time, the head of the Committee of economists of Ukraine noted that given the conflict in the East of the country and sanctions against the Russian banking sector should be expected that other banks with Russian capital in Ukraine in the future will be sold.
“I don’t know whether this will happen in the near future. However, there are Russian banks operating on the Ukrainian market, which put up their “daughter” on sale, because their work here is considerably more complex and leads to losses,” – said the expert.
Commenting on the submission of a business by Paul Fuchs and Maxim MyCitadel statements of the NBU about the desire to purchase Prominvestbank, Andrew Novak noted that this can be a quite effective purchase.
“It all depends on the subsequent intentions of the investor. If it is to increase the capital to develop it, God forbid. I think if you want to buy the asset, it is probably not in order to obtain damages for profit” – summed up Andriy Novak.
