The Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin said that the administration of the President of the United States Donald trump is well aware of what actually is Russia.
According to him, firstly, any discussions with Russia should be conducted from a position of strength.
In this connection he referred to the slogan “peace through strength”, which was enshrined in the Manifesto of the Republican party during the election campaign in the United States.
“And second of all, Russia, I mean Russia today (we don’t know what will appear in the future), but today’s Russia cannot be trusted fundamentally. And any business with Russia, situational or not, can be conducted solely on the basis of these two points of view,” – said Klimkin.
In his opinion, this position is supported by statements of many American officials.
“I had the opportunity to talk with the Secretary of state, the new Advisor for national security, with a number of people from the new American administration, and I believe that it was a very consistent signal. And I believe that they understand what Russia is dealing with,” said Klimkin.
He recalled how a few days ago, former Prime Minister of great Britain David Cameron said that “you can’t make America the majestic again, making Central Europe again weak.”
Earlier Pavlo Klimkin said that Ukraine is not an important date, the main thing – to hold a meeting of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and U.S. President Donald trump.
“Can you hear any dates, formal or informal. First, I always say, if I know about the formal part of this meeting, I, unfortunately, today will not say because this should be a General solution. The preparation for this meeting underway. We talked about this on Friday (in the framework of the Commission Ukraine-NATO in Brussels – Ed.). We, of course, the desired result and an understanding of how we come to this result. We are now working very closely with the American party, and at different levels with different representatives of the American administration,” – said Klimkin.
