Scientists figured out how obesity is associated with lack of sleep

People who sleep badly, sharper perceive the smells of food. This was reported by scientists from the Medical school at northwestern University, USA.

They spoke about their findings at the annual meeting of the cognitive science Society in San Francisco, reports ScienceNews.

Using MRI, researchers monitored the reaction of individual regions of the brain — piriforme cortex and the prefrontal cortex on different food odors in when people slept only four hours, and when fully rested.

The results showed that the brighter areas of the brain respond to food odours it is in moments of fatigue, this pattern is not observed, if we are talking about other smells.

Scientists believe that the results of their study can shed light on understanding why people who work late or at night often suffer from obesity.
