People’s deputies of Ukraine expressed outrage to the statements of German Ambassador Ernst Reichel that the elections in the Donbass can go, and in the presence of Russian troops. About this Facebook said the Vice-speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Irina Gerashchenko.
“This position is contrary to the Minsk agreements, their primary unit of security, which requires an immediate ceasefire and the withdrawal of foreign troops. German troops in Donbass, but Russian is, they are foreign, Ukraine – not Russia, and those troops should leave,” she wrote.
Irina Gerashchenko said that the elections in the Donbass must be conducted according to the standards of the OSCE, these rules are laid Ambassador not, and there is a clear written safety criteria.
“These statements are contrary to the official position of Germany and of Chancellor Angela Merkel, whom we are very grateful for the consistent support of the sovereignty and independence of Ukraine”, – said Vice-speaker.
Earlier, the Ambassador of Germany in Ukraine Ernst Reichel stated that it is possible to hold elections in the occupied territories of Donbass and in the presence of Russian troops.
The Ambassador cited the example of elections in the GDR, which was supposed to replace the Communist regime, in the presence of the Soviet military and believes that it would be possible to go for the scenario in the Donbass.
“Not necessarily that the elections in the Donbass can take place only when there will be no Russian troops, or on each city will be posted the Ukrainian flag. Without a doubt, it is difficult to imagine the holding of local elections without security. But I am convinced that this is not something impossible, all depends on the conditions. Can you give a historical example. The last parliamentary elections in the GDR, which was supposed to replace the Communist regime, took place in the presence of the Western group of Soviet troops and the then existing Communist regime in the GDR. But the election led to change,” said Reichel.
He noted that in any case elections should be held according to European standards ensuring the safety of their conduct.
