Donya-e-Eqtesad (Iran), Putin continues to arm Syrian army

Russia recently passed the Syrian Arab Republic second batch of multi-role fighters MiG-29, so that Syria could use them to strengthen its defense and protection of territorial integrity.

As tweeted last Thursday, the Russian Embassy in this Arab country, fighters transferred to Damascus in the framework of cooperation between the two countries in military-technical sphere.

It is known that the Syrian air forces have already begun to use these fighters. Russian Embassy in this report did not specify the exact amount of combat aircraft, as well as the exact cost of the party.

It is obvious that Russia and Syria continue active cooperation in the sphere of defence and security, a tradition which was laid in the years of the Soviet Union. In particular, when Syria began to buy from the Soviet Union to the needs of its armed forces and multirole fighters MiG-29.

Soviet multi-role fighter MiG-29 in 1986 took place among the samples of military equipment of Soviet production that were offered for sale abroad. However, in those years, he has been repeatedly modernized and equipped with new technologies.

This fighter is lightweight, has high maneuverability and can climb and fly at an altitude of nearly 30 kilometers.

Russian aircraft Corporation MiG made the moment more than 1 thousand 400 units of this sample of aviation technology.

It should be noted that the fighter was transferred to the Syrian Arab Republic a few days after President Vladimir Putin urged the defense Ministers and heads of diplomatic departments of the two countries as soon as possible to begin negotiations about increase Russia’s military presence in the country, in particular, about the establishment on its territory of another military base.

According to the agreements of Russia and the government in Damascus 2015, the Russian VKS took the broadest possible participation in combat operations against terrorists. In addition, the Military space forces of Russia have received from the lawful authorities in Damascus right virtually unlimited presence on Syrian territory — at a military air base Hamim.

In addition to the air force, Russia has the right to significantly strengthen its naval presence in Syria. Damascus goes for it, as it believes that it is entirely in the interests of the Syrian state. In 2017, Russia and Syria signed another agreement under which the naval port of Tartus could make a major Russian warships. Under the agreement, in Tartus up to 11 ships of the Russian Navy equipped with nuclear power plants. The agreement was signed for 49 years and can be renewed for another 25 years.

Thus, Russia’s military presence in Syria has visible prospects and it has greatly improved in recent years. But at the same time, a number of observers noted that these prospects are connected with the stay in power of President Bashar al-Assad or his official successor.
