Russia continues the work of the totalitarian Soviet regime, but on the occupied territories of Ukraine
In Day of memory of victims of political repression , the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Ukraine called on the international community to pay attention to the crimes of Russia against the Ukrainian people in the occupied territories of Donbass and Crimea, the press service of the Ministry.
“We remember the millions of peasants who deliberately tortured to death by the famine, Ukrainian patriots, the national elite, writers, artists, scientists, priests, just innocent people who were murdered during the Great terror, remember those who were thrown into prisons and labor camps of the Gulag, deported, sent to the settlement,” the statement said.
The Ministry noted that the magnitude of the crimes of the Soviet authorities began to realize a few decades later in independent Ukraine after the Russian aggression.
“And it is, unfortunately, not only about the past. Russian aggression against Ukraine has returned to our land and political repression. In Crimea for the sixth consecutive year massively violated human rights, Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar national community. Murder, the kidnapping of activists, trumped-up trials, illegal detention, arbitrary arrests and searches, intimidation. Currently, more than a hundred Ukrainian nationals were being held for political reasons in Russia and the occupied Crimea, most of them are Crimean Tatars. Even worse is the situation in the occupied areas of Donbass. Shootings and murder of the Ukrainian prisoners of war and local patriots, kidnapping, torture and humiliation have become commonplace here,” say the diplomats.
The foreign Ministry of Ukraine urges the international community to pay special attention to the massive and systematic repression of Russia in the occupied territories and to take all measures to put an end to this phenomenon.
As reported “Today”, President Vladimir Zelensky honored the memory of victims of political repression and believes that the current and the next generation must not repeat the crimes of the Soviet regime.
