Former Secretary-General of the United Nations ban Ki-moon said that out of the presidential race in South Korea. This is the Agency “Yonhap”.
“I’m giving up my pure intentions to achieve changes in Korean politics under my leadership and to unite the country”, — he said in Parliament.
Former UN Secretary-General also noted that he was “unpleasantly surprised by the limited and selfish ambitions of some political circles and came to the conclusion that it makes no sense to move into the future with them.”
Recall, the ban was seen as one of the possible candidates for the leaders of South Korea and has repeatedly stated that he is ready to run for this post. However, according to the Agency, he returned to country after 10 years tenure as the UN Secretary General, he was unable to adapt to South Korean political context, and could not stand the constant attacks and accusations of corruption, involving not only himself but also his family members.
Currently in South Korea unfolding corruption scandal, which involved President Park Geun-Hye and the leadership of Samsung.
It coincided with a political crisis due to the psychic and close friend of President Choi sung-SIL. She is accused of pressure on dozens of major firms with the purpose of transfer of their money in two non-profit Foundation.
On 9 December Parliament voted for the impeachment of President Park Geun-Hye. This decision must, within 180 days to approve or cancel the constitutional court.
Ban Ki-moon has been UN Secretary General for two terms of five years.
