The founder of Bellingcat: Those who assert that a Ukrainian Buk that shot down the Boeing, hopeless

The international volunteer group called Bellingcat the name of the leader of the militants involved in transportation to Ukraine of combat vehicle anti-aircraft complex “Buk”, which was shot down passenger plane flight MH-17. It appeared to be a Russian officer Sergey Dubinsky — one of the companions of the leader of terrorists of Slavyansk Igor Girkin (strelkov). Bellingcat group is investigating high-profile events, based on data from open sources. Acting in parallel with the official investigative team Bellingcat concluded that the Malaysian Boeing was shot down from “Beech”, delivered from Russia. According to experts, the findings of Bellingcat can help in the search for evidence of who shot down the plane.

THE INVOLVEMENT OF “GLOOMY”. The Bellingcat project was founded by a British journalist Eliot Higgins July 15, 2014. The group consists of several dozen volunteers and journalists from around the world that investigate these or other events based on various public sources. A significant part of the Bellingcat investigation on the war in Syria and in Ukraine. In relation to the Ukrainian events group Higgins the greatest attention is paid to the study of the causes and circumstances of accident Malaysian Boeing flight MH-17 over Ukraine on 17 July 2014 from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur. As you know, as a result of this tragedy killed 298 passengers and crew members of the ship. The official investigation of the incident involved the joint investigation team (JIT) consisting of representatives of the Netherlands, Belgium, Australia and Ukraine. In its latest report of September 28, 2016 JIT participants indicated that the plane was shot down by anti-aircraft missile complex “Buk” from the territory controlled by the separatists. In this combat vehicle with which the rocket was launched, delivered from Russia, and after attack was brought back.

Representatives Bellingcat conducting a parallel investigation into the mh17 disaster last week released its own report, which referred to the identity of the leader of the militants who led the delivery of “Buk” on the territory of Ukraine and given the order of placement of the machine positions. They are, according to the research group, was the Russian officer Sergey Dubinsky, known under the pseudonym Gloomy or Bad Soldier, as he called himself, talking on the forums. The same man known as Sergei Petrovsky, but in the Bellingcat found that this name is fictional.
Sergey Dubinsky is a Russian GRU Colonel of the 22nd brigade of special forces. During the events in the Donbas, he was promoted major-General. “It is unclear whether he received the rank of major-General in the Russian Federation, the self-proclaimed “DNR” or there”, — stated in the Bellingcat report.

The researchers found that Dubinsky was born 9 August 1962 and lived in Donetsk. From 1985 to 1987 Frowning, he served in Afghanistan as part of the 181st motorized rifle regiment of the 108th motorized rifle division. This military unit, in 2016, one of his colleagues Dubinsky put his pictures in the form of signing them in the following way: “Peter, Tworkowski, Gloomy, bison, Buffalo and our Karakhan” and also Gloomy, in “DNR”. Under the same aliases Dubinsky is listed on the Ukrainian website “Peacemaker”, which publishes information on the separatists, the leaders of the militants and the people involved in fomenting war in Ukraine. Among other things, it also indicates current place of residence Dubinsky in one of settlements of the Rostov region. According to Bellingcat, at the beginning of 2015 Dubinsky was ejected from Donetsk “for extortion of money from businessmen”.

Of hacked mail of Igor Girkin (strelkov) a connection Dubinsky with the leader of terrorists of Slavyansk. One of the letters addressed to Girkin 28 APR 2014 with postal addresses owned by the Dubinsky has the following content: “hi, Igor, has not forgotten the bison?”. Gloomy later took the post of “Deputy defense Minister “DNR” on intelligence activities (the”Minister of defense” in the spring and summer of 2014 were Girkin himself).

The involvement Gloomy to escort a combat vehicle, which was shot down Malaysian Boeing, is set in part by the interception of several phone conversations that were released by SBU, immediately after the mh17 disaster. The person with the Callsign Gloomy, identified as Sergei Nikolaevich Petrovskiy, to control the movement of “Beech” through the Ukrainian-Russian border, and gives orders for the nomination of a combat vehicle in a given area.

THE IMPLICATIONS OF THE REPORT. Immediately after Bellingcat published his study, Dubinsky was released on bond and has denied all the above facts against him. “Such “investigation” is nothing more than an attempt to divert the investigation away from the fact that the shots were fired from the Ukrainian “Buka”. For a person with minimal knowledge of geography and knowing where at that time held the front line, such articles are nothing but Homeric laughter, can not cause” — said Dubinsky journalists of the air force. According to him, the report itself is another attempt to “pull the owl on the globe”, a mixture of selected facts and lies: “the Main factors in this case are two: 1. Who gave the command to defeat the purpose. 2. Who was shooting. Neither the first nor the second I have nothing”.

However, the Eliot Higgins insists that the findings of the Bellingcat are correct. “At the moment, and JIT, and Bellingcat claim that the Buk came from Russia. Now I am sure that JIT would not do such a politically explosive statements, if I wasn’t sure. New videos that they provided during and after the press conference, held on 28 September 2016, have forced us to further verify our previous conclusion. A new video, which transported the “Buk”, has allowed us to identify features of “Beech”, which we showed in Russia, and which was filmed and photographed on 17 July 2014 in Ukraine. People who are still trying to claim that a Ukrainian “Buk” simply hopeless,” said Higgins comments, “Today”.

Recall that in their previous research, the representatives of the Bellingcat found that self-propelled fire installation (SDA) SAM “Buk — M1”, which could be shot down the Boeing, owned by the Russian 53rd anti-aircraft missile brigade. Of the fighting vehicles of the brigade from 23 to 25 June 2014 were transferred to the Ukrainian-Russian border. Among them was SDA, which called Bellingcat “Buk 3×2”, because the average side number machine was defaced (it was reported later that it was a Threesome). However, by comparing a number of features — the dents on the body, the sequence of connecting cables to the carriage at the launching pad, the shape and size of the oil stains from the exhaust port, the participants Bellingcat concluded that “Buk 3×2” and SOU, which brought down the Boeing, one and the same machine.

In previous research, the representatives of the Bellingcat concluded that the operation of “Buck” could have involved up to 100 people. Their findings, volunteers regularly passed to JIT. “28 September 2016 at a press conference, it became clear that they would come to the same conclusions that we do about the route of the “Buck” in Ukraine, its place of launch, as well as about the origin of “Buck,” explained Higgins. According to him, the JIT never sends information that would allow us to learn more about their investigation than what they officially declare. “We continue to encourage those who believe that he has new information on MH-17, so they contacted us or JIT, and provided evidence that they have,” reported Higgins.

Russian and Ukrainian experts, however, believe that research Bellingcat, no matter how detailed they may be, cannot become the basis for court proceedings on the fact of the mh17 disaster. According to Russian aviation expert Vadim Lukashevich, collecting information in open sources, the group doing important and useful work, but it is not part of the official investigation. “At the same time, information obtained Bellingcat, could seriously help an investigation in search of new evidence”, — said the chief editor of “Information resistance” Yuri, Karin.
