“Borrell welcomed the recent agreement reached at the meeting of the Trilateral contact group on additional measures of cease-fire from July 27 to ensure compliance with a comprehensive, sustainable and permanent ceasefire, and stressed the need for progress in relation to the measures agreed during the Paris summit in “Norman format” in December 2019. The high representative also reiterated the EU’s expectations that Russia will respond to Ukraine’s efforts, completely fulfilling the Minsk agreements and exert its influence on the armed groups that it supports. Borrell reiterated that the EU sanctions against the Russian Federation remain in force,” – said in a statement.

In turn, the UN Secretary-General, antónio Guterres, called on all parties to respect fully the agreed conditions and to focus on the protection of civilians that continue to suffer most from the ongoing fighting. Guterres called on all parties to take further measures to give “new impetus to peace efforts, “Norman Quartet”, of the Trilateral contact group and the OSCE” and ensure progress in the implementation of the Minsk agreements.
