We need a sensible balance: the EU made a statement on the future of sanctions against Russia

Need to selectively cooperate with Russia, said Borrell

The EU must find a reasonable balance between sanctions against Russia and cooperation with this country. This was stated by chief of EU diplomacy Josep Borrell, speaking at a videoconference with the heads of diplomatic missions in Germany.

“We need to selectively cooperate with Russia on issues that are important to us. This does not contradict the fact to be solid. We need a reasonable balance between hardness and sanctions against Russia and cautiously tried to communicate on the electoral areas,” he said.

Earlier in the Foreign service of the European Union stated that entered against Russia sanctions are not an obstacle to providing this humanitarian aid to combat the spread of coronavirus.

As you know, the EU imposed sanctions against Russia in response to its illegal occupation of Ukrainian Crimea and aggression in the Donbas.

We will remind, recently the Verkhovna Rada appealed to the West because of Russia’s attempts to get rid of the sanctions. MPs call on the international community to counter misinformation and the attempts of Russian Federation to avoid liability for gross ongoing violations of international law.
