The price of power for factories in Ukraine is one of the lowest in Europe – Smigel

The Prime Minister noted the need to continue the reform of the energy market

The price of electricity for industrial consumers in Ukraine is one of the lowest in Europe. This was stated by Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmyhal during a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on energy and housing and communal services.

“The price for industrial consumers for non-private consumers varies. We have an open market, it may fluctuate. But it (electricity) is one of the cheapest among all the countries of Europe. It is cheaper, than in Russia, Belarus, cheaper than in Europe on average”, – said Smigel.

According to him, according to Eurostat figures for the 1st quarter of the price for domestic consumers, Ukraine takes 4-5 position from the bottom. The Prime Minister also noted the need to continue the reform of the energy market and to remove on it price limits, which lead to the loss of individual enterprises of the industry.

“Given the state of today’s energy market, we have very good prices. Therefore, I support you that we should continue to reform, to give the legislature the opportunity to enter the market of direct contracts. It is necessary to balance the market today, to take these all price-kepi that hinder the development and injected into loss-making private enterprises in the industry”, – said Smigel.

We will remind, according to the GP “market Operator”, in April the price of electricity for industrial consumers decreased by 9% to 1243,87 UAH/MW-hour.

Earlier, former Deputy Minister of energy and coal industry of Ukraine, expert of energy markets, Sergei Chekh announced that Ukraine electricity prices for industry decreased so much that at times do not even cover the cost of its production, and energy is in a crisis situation.

Acting Minister of energy and the environmental protection of Ukraine Olga Bukovec 10 may, the TV channel “Ukraine 24” denies reports of steel company “ArcelorMittal Krivoy Rog” relatively high electricity rates in Ukraine in comparison with other countries. As the Minister, after a detailed analysis of the company representatives, the energy Ministry could prove the lowest fares over the last two years.

“We worked on numbers, they (“ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih” – ed.) agreed that the price for electric energy they receive today, the lowest compared to previous years. That is, 2019, 2018″, she said.
