Europe celebrates the 75th anniversary of the end of the region the deadliest military conflict in recent history – the Second world war.

But the country leaders – Chancellor Angela Merkel, President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the presidents of the Bundestag and the constitutional court addressed the ceremony in the capital’s Neue Wache, which is the main memorial to victims of war and tyranny in Germany.
