Scientists: only a ten minute walk a day prolongs life

Experts have found that if you walk at least ten minutes each day, this will help reduce the risk of premature death (15%), the risk of type 2 diabetes (40%), heart disease (35%), senile dementia (30%) and some cancers (20%).

However, for many adults to go for a walk even once a month – a big problem. Research Association public health England showed that people in the UK is 20% less active now than they were in the 1960-ies, and walk on average 30 miles a year less than two decades ago.

Dr. Jenny Harris, Deputy medical Director Public health England, said: “If you start to go shopping on foot or will walk during your lunch break, you will extend your life by many years.”
