Scientists know how to deal with hallucinations

Auditory hallucinations are one of the symptoms of schizophrenia. About 70% of people with schizophrenia hear voices at some point in their lives. Scientists from France have found that transcranial magnetic stimulation successfully struggling with auditory hallucinations, according to “Orthodox”.

The study involved patients with schizophrenia. Participants were divided into two groups. The first group received transcranial magnetic stimulation of the brain, and the second – a placebo-stimulation.

Also the specialists used a special scale to identify the characteristics of auditory hallucinations in patients.

The researchers conducted two transcranial magnetic stimulation daily for two days. The experimental group received a series of high-frequency magnetic pulses (about 20 Hz).

Using MRI, the specialist found a target for stimulation. It was a certain area in the temporal lobe of the brain associated with speech. Scientists have found: transcranial magnetic stimulation helped 34.6% of the patients from the experimental group. In the control group, positive dynamics was observed only in 9.1% of patients.

Earlier it was reported that suffering from hallucinations more than 4% of people.
