Association of manufacturers of tobacco products ukrtûtûn said that Ukraine took the “honorary” first place as the source country of supply of illicit cigarettes in Europe in 2016. This was announced by Director General of the Association Valentina Khomenko, citing a study of the illegal cigarette market in the EU, Norway and Switzerland, conducted by KPMG, transfer “Ukrainian news”.
“According to the study of the illegal cigarette market in the EU, Norway and Switzerland, conducted by KPMG, Ukraine took the “honorary” first place as the source country of supply of illicit cigarettes in Europe in 2016,” – said Khomenko.
The head of the Association noted that from Ukraine to the EU fell 5.8 billion cigarettes. Basically, it’s smuggled goods passing through the territory of Ukraine in transit.

Also in this figure were legally produced in Ukraine cigarettes intended for sale in the domestic market, but exported abroad illegally.
According to TNS, as of June 2017, the volume of the illegal market in Ukraine grew by 2.6% – more than twice in comparison with indicators of last year.
At the same time, Khomenko added that the number of cigarettes seized by regulatory authorities of Ukraine with the attempt of illegal export abroad the same in 2016, counted only in the millions.
