Kiev will start a dialogue with NATO on the membership action plan in the near future – Ministry of foreign Affairs of Ukraine

Ukraine in the near future intends to initiate a dialogue with NATO on the invitation to the plan of action concerning membership (pdch) in an Alliance, said the newly appointed head of mission of Ukraine to NATO Vadim pristayko.

“I will not promise that this will happen in a week or a month, because now the consent among the allies. We would like to request that the allies can’t offer. But I, as Ambassador, received the task: we need to start a dialogue about how calmly and diplomatically Ukraine will receive an invitation to the map. I’m sure it will start soon,” said Pristayko in an interview with “European truth”.

He explained that the Ukrainian side has proposed to the Alliance for consideration to engage in a political dialogue, which should result in the invitation of Ukraine to the map. “Dialogue is needed to agree how to make it so that the Alliance we were not denied,” – said the head of the mission.

Speaking about the joining procedure, Pristayko noticed that it was a “long process”.

“First, NATO declares open door policy, then the country is interested in integration, and then receives an invitation to the map and begins execution of that plan. For almost 20 years, the phase map is required. But we must understand that the map does not guarantee membership,” he explained.
