The accident stole $ 4.5 billion from the economy of Ukraine – Omeljan

Ukraine needs to reduce the level of road deaths by at least half by 2020. This was stated by Minister of infrastructure Volodymyr Omelian, the press service of the Ministry.

Omeljan noted that according to official figures, last year on Ukrainian roads killed nearly 3.5 thousand people, 33.5 thousand were injured.

According to the world Bank, the losses to the economy from road accidents amount to 1,5 – 2,5% of Ukraine’s GDP, and total annual losses amount to $ 4.5 billion.

“It is believed that bad roads, no markings, road signs increases the risk of accidents. However, the upgraded road often prompts the driver to test their own strength and power of the vehicle. The consequence of this is speeding, traffic violations, injuries and death,” said Omeljan.

We will remind, earlier “Ukravtodor” has developed an action planbased on the strategy on traffic safety in 2020.
