The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko was posthumously awarded the title Hero of Ukraine to Mikhail Zhiznevsky – the Belarusian who was killed during the revolution of Dignity, and presented the Star of Hero of Ukraine to his parents. About it reports a press-service of the President.

“He laid down his life for our freedom and yours” – said Poroshenko and he reminded of events of the revolution of Dignity, when Michael died and thousands of Ukrainians came to bid farewell to the Belarusians, who fought for the freedom of Ukraine.

“For us, Michael is not a foreigner to us Michael Ukrainian soul”, – said Poroshenko.

The President stressed that the title of Hero of Ukraine has an extremely high status, this award is assigned exclusively for services at the front for the protection of the territorial integrity and independence of the Ukrainian state.

“I am proud that today to the glorious cohort of Ukrainians who wear the title of Hero of Ukraine joined your son – the great Belarusian and a great Ukrainian,” – said Poroshenko.

The President thanked on behalf of the Ukrainian people, the parents of Mikhail Zhiznevsky during a stand and a solid understanding and exposure in such difficult conditions.

“We’re doing everything we can to help our country preserve freedom and liberty, democracy and development of the Heroes of the Heavenly hundred died not in vain,” – said Poroshenko.

The President announced that he had initiated changes to the legislation, which was supported by the Verkhovna Rada and allowed for the first time in our country’s history to assign the highest award of Ukraine to a foreigner – the Belarusians, who fought for the freedom of Ukraine.

Father Mikhail Zhiznevsky thanked the President for the support of their family.

“Thank you very much for your support of our family, for the moral and material assistance, for that you not forget our family. We will remember your help that you keep your word,” said the father of the Hero.

“For this – for our freedom, for the freedom of Ukraine – killed our son” – he added.
