Poroshenko signed a law that will help the residents of the occupied territories to obtain a higher education

President Petro Poroshenko has signed the Law of Ukraine No. 2026-VIII “On amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On higher education” regarding ensuring the right to higher education of persons with place of residence which is the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine”, the Verkhovna Rada adopted on 16 may 2017. About it reports a press-service of the head of state.

The law is aimed at improving the mechanism of legal regulation of public relations arising in the implementation of the right to education for persons with place of residence which is the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine, to provide such persons with additional opportunities for entry to study in higher education.

The law provides that for persons with place of residence which is the temporarily occupied territory, and which received the document on General secondary education, admission to one of the higher educational institutions located on the territory of Zaporizhzhya, Mykolaiv, Odesa and Kherson regions, on a competitive basis by results of entrance examinations within the prescribed quota of admission to higher educational institution (scientific institutions) of Ukraine.

According to the document, the quota for the admission of persons, by place of residence which is the temporarily occupied territory, in higher educational institutions located on the territory of Zaporizhzhya, Mykolaiv, Odesa and Kherson regions, is set in the amount of 1000 places of public order and is distributed between these universities in the order determined by the Cabinet of Ministers.

The law shall enter into force on the day following the day of its publication, and entered into force after a month from the date of entry into force.
