The Cabinet will propose to Parliament to increase funding for road construction by 2.5 billion UAH.

The Cabinet of Ministers will propose the Verkhovna Rada to adopt amendments to the state budget for increasing the financing of the construction and restoration of important for the economy of country roads linking Lviv, Ternopil, Khmelnitsky, Vinnitsa, Uman, Odessa and Nikolaev. This was stated by Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman at a government meeting on Wednesday, may 31.

“We as a government propose to increase funding (restoration and construction of road infrastructure – Ed.) 2.5 billion through support to Parliament amendments to the budget. This is a very important highway – Lviv, Ternopil, Khmelnitsky, Vinnitsa, Uman, Odessa and Nikolaev. It is those roads that will link the Western border with the Ukrainian ports”, – said the head of government.

The Prime Minister noted that the Cabinet intends to provide adequate funding of road works, and said that due to the direction of road construction, half the amount of the excess of plan customs duties this year has already managed to attract additional 5.6 billion UAH.

As reported, according to Groysman, Ukraine in 2017 will increase funding for road infrastructure in 3 times in comparison with the year 2016 – up to 30 billion UAH.

According to the “Ukravtodor”, the annual need for funding of roads in the country is estimated at not less than 60 billion.

According to infrastructure Minister Volodymyr Omelyan, the road sector of Ukraine in 2016, was funded at UAH 10 billion from the government’s stated about 20 billion UAH.

Earlier Groysman said that the Cabinet will require criminal liability for substandard repair of roads.
