The authorities of the Greek island of Agios Efstrátios in the Aegean sea declared a state of emergency because of the infestation, according to Корреспондент.net with reference to the newspaper Naftemporiki.

The representative of the local administration told the BBC that the insect eat all the plants, which are starving the sheep.

Live on the island of about 200 inhabitants, engaged in agriculture and fishing. For the control of insects attracted students from the agricultural University of Athens, which spray special chemicals that kill the locust, they do not harm the environment.
