In Berlin Steinmeier officially handed over presidential powers

Before the official ceremony, gauck and his wife Daniela Schadt met Steinmeier and the future first lady Elke Buedenbender in front of the Palace.

In the presidential Bellevue Palace in Berlin on Sunday, March 19, took place the official ceremony of transfer of presidential powers with the participation of the elected President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his predecessor, Joachim gauck, reports Deutsche Welle.

Before the official ceremony of transfer of power gauck and his wife Daniela Schadt met Steinmeier and the future first lady Elke Buedenbender on the stairs in front of the Palace.

As reported on 18 March, ended a five-year term Joachim gauck.

Steinmeier was elected as President on 12 February, the delegates of the German Federal fees.

In connection with its venerable age gauck last summer stated that she will not be eligible for a second term.
