US Ambassador to the UN criticized the blocking of Russia’s resolution on Syria

Russia and China made an unjustified choice, blocking a resolution on sanctions against Syria, said the U.S. permanent representative to the UN Nikki Haley.

“Lock the resolution a concern,” she said, speaking in the Security Council immediately after the vote.

According to Haley, “Russia and China today made an unjustified choice, refused to prosecute the Assad regime for use of chemical weapons”.

According to the representative of the United States, Russia and China “to ignore the facts, put the regime and their friends above the safety”.

As recalled Haley, the UN security Council repeatedly voted to establish accountability in the use of chemical weapons in Syria through the creation of a special mechanism, and made for it, including Moscow and Beijing.

“I gathered evidence, interviewed victims and concluded that is clear and undeniable: the Assad regime has used chemical weapons on three occasions in 2014 and 2015, and ISIS used chemical weapons once,” he said.Haley.

In her view, Russia and China “did not like” such conclusions.

In turn, the UK’s permanent representative to the UN Matthew Rycroft said: “I am outraged that Russia has used the veto, and China – have joined it. They thus violate their own commitments to non-proliferation compliance in the world.”

According to him, such a move “was a blow to the credibility of the UN security Council in the world.”

As you know, Russia has used its veto in the UN security Council blocking a resolution on sanctions against Syria. The document was supported by nine members of the UN security Council. Three voted against, including Russia, and three abstained.

In the Russian mission to the UN, noted that “in the form in which the text is presented to the security Council, Russia to support it can’t.”
