The Chairman of the faction of the Christian democratic Union and Christian social Union (CDU/CSU) in the Bundestag, Volker Kauder said in the interview group Funke that Russia is trying to “destabilize Europe”, reports Berliner Morgenpost.
“Russia under President Putin on a daily basis trying to destabilize Europe. It must be resisted from a position of strength, but this should not mean a return to the cold war”, − said Kauder.
The politician believes that in this regard, and also because of the threat of terrorism, the NATO allies must increase defense spending.
“The credibility of NATO should be maintained,” he said.
He also noted that the increase in defense spending for Germany is a response to the request of the President of the United States Donald trump, and stems from obligations taken on by the country, as all of the other NATO partners in 2014.
Earlier, the former President of Germany, Joachim gauck, said that the EU must combat the “expanded Russia’s campaign of disinformation.”
