Elected President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov was sworn in at the inauguration ceremony held in the Palace Rukhyet in Ashgabat.
Berdimuhamedov said at the inauguration that Turkmenistan as “an independent state for more than 21 years operates in the development of international relations on the basis of the status of permanent neutrality”.
He stressed that “the fundamental principles emanating from the status of neutrality – the strengthening of world peace and security, the extension of good neighbourliness, friendship and brotherhood, to ensure stable development in the future will remain the priority directions of foreign policy of independent Turkmenistan”.

In the elections of the President of Turkmenistan, which was attended by nine candidates, voted for 3.16 million voters, which amounted to 97,28% of the total. According to the CEC of the country, Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov, gave their votes 97,69% of the voters.
