At least 17 people were killed, dozens injured in a stampede at a football stadium in Angola, Reuters reported, citing the head of the local hospital.
“People died from suffocation as a result of pressure (from the crowd — ed.). Some people had to go to the others. Total injured 76 people, of whom 17 died”, — quotes Agency the words of the head of the local hospital Ernesto Luis.
According to Luis, the stampede occurred at the stadium in the city of Uige, located in the North of the country. It was provoked by the fans who stormed the gates of the stadium to see the match between two local teams.
