EU Commissioner Hahn spoke about his vision of the policy of sanctions

European Commissioner for enlargement and neighborhood policy Johannes Hahn is convinced that in case of violation of international law, as in the case of Russia should be sanctioned. He said this on Tuesday in Strasbourg at the winter session of the parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), responding to a question from deputies about the opportunity to move from sanctions to dialogue with Russia.

“I’m always in favor of dialogue. Discussing you can bring the positions of people. But we can’t help but notice when a violation of international law. Then there must be consequences, and should be sanctioned,” said Khan.

As you know, the President of PACE Pedro Agramunt expressed for the lifting of sanctions against the Russian delegation and returning it in the session hall.

The Commissioner also expressed confidence in the fact that the resolution of the conflict can only be political and not military means.

“That can’t be solved by violence, armed solution, only a political solution and a political solution could be achieved through negotiations,” – he stressed.

In an interview, when asked about expectations this year in terms of bilateral relations of the EU with Ukraine, Hahn said that he expects from Kyiv continue the implementation of the agenda reforms.

“(Expect – Ed.) continue execution of everything connected with fighting corruption, advancing economic, judicial and land reforms. Everyone should stay true to what was agreed. I hope that there is progress in the implementation of the Minsk agreements”, – said Khan.

We will remind, the head of the permanent Ukrainian delegation to the parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the people’s Deputy Vladimir Aryev was re-elected Chairman of the Assembly Committee on culture, education, science and media.

Earlier people’s Deputy of Ukraine Georgy Logvynsky was selected as one of 17 Vice presidents of the PACE at the session of the Assembly in Strasbourg.
