Russia: the club for young spies

The goal of the movement founded by the Minister of defense, — increase of prestige of military service and Patriotic education of citizens. At the same time, the number of cases of evasion of military service in Russia was reduced.

A new youth movement prepares children to army school years.

Founded in the summer of 2016 movement “Uname” for six months managed to collect about 30 thousand children, the youngest of which is eight years. The movement is rapidly gaining momentum. It can be compared with the pioneer movement in the Soviet times. The founder of ideas – the Minister of defence of Russia Sergey Shoigu.

One of the most important objectives — increase of prestige of military service and Patriotic education of children.

If you listen to the students of the St. Petersburg school 210, the training appears to run efficiently.

“I am very happy that you are worthy to serve in the Armed forces of this great country, as Russia. I want to go to service in the air-space forces,” says 14-year-old Cyril is in the Naval Museum in St. Petersburg. At the Museum in December 2016 opening of the new Expeditionary center, which promises to make participating in the movement of youth in scientific work, including on the Arctic territories.

16-year-old Alina believes that military service has a positive impact on young people. “The army disciplinary. From the army they come back completely different,” she says.

Both dressed in the uniform of the movement: a sweatshirt sand color, trousers with pockets and a red beret. The organization has its own symbol: the head of the eagle symbolizes the Russian state and the army.

School 210 “Uname” organizes trips, during which acquaints students with the history of Russia and St. Petersburg. In addition, the students show tanks and old weapons.

Do Russian children are brought up in a military spirit, starting from an early age?

“I would compare the movement with scouts, not with the pioneers” — responds to criticism of Igor Korovin. He is the chief of staff of the regional branch of “Warmie” in Saint-Petersburg. The title was chosen in compliance with the military terms used by the movement.

According to him, children are encouraged to play sports, guided tours, actively study the history of Russia.

“So, they’ll grow not just soldiers, but a fully developed personality” — said Korovin.

“Uname” offers the possibility of promotion, and adults. Korovin is a lawyer who this year left his post of the Deputy of Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg. While working in the “Unirii” is a volunteer, and the organization does not receive direct funding from the state.

Korovin, a former member of the Legislative Assembly from the Communist party, chose to interview a wine bar, which is a feature a large selection of cigars.

He buys a Cuban cigar, cuts the tip and inhales the sweet smoke.

“Often in such circles was not good planning, methods of education thought. Sometimes the circles are attracted to the teaching of the retired military and in the classroom can in the worst case to discuss the principles of making explosives,” says Korovin and produces smoke rings.

“Uname”, that is “Junior army,” brings together thousands of different groups, activities which in General combines patriotism. There are clubs of parachutists, the clubs of young spies, lovers of history, courses in first aid and sports clubs, which are karate and judo. Now the aim is to collect these mugs and manage from Moscow.

The longer-term objective is to attract into the army and trained professionals. Emphasizing its military power Russia is modernizing its weapons, and in order to use it, we need new skills.

About half of the members of the group were girls. The idea of movement is also based on the fact that children are more moving and less time spent at the computer games and phones. However, behind this raising a child fit for the army, and not improve the health of citizens.

This issue recognizes and organization “Committee of soldiers ‘ mothers of Russia”, which protects the rights of conscripts and servicemen.

“Full of patriotism, young people go into the army, despite health problems,” says the coordinator of the “Soldiers ‘ mothers” Oksana Paramonova.

“Health is not enough, and treatment to hard, because the level of medical care in the army is very limited.”

Volunteers enough, despite the hazing

A minute of silence dedicated to soldiers who died in military service, and the fighters for human rights. A few young people and mothers in the office, stand up. On the wall hangs a picture of murdered journalist Anna Politkovskaya.

Organization “Committee of soldiers ‘mothers” tells the military service in St. Petersburg lectures on how to protect their rights.

The sea of questions. Whether you need to travel by metro during the call, ask someone. The police often stop young people in the subway and check whether they have served in the army.

18-year-old Vladimir Tokarev was declared by a medical Commission unfit for military service. Before joining it is still sent to the hospital specified by the draft Board, where asthma is unexpectedly not found. According to the extract from this hospital, Tokarev fully fit for service.

“At first I thought that then I really have to go into the army. I’m Orthodox, so I believe that if I was hit on the cheek, then you need to substitute the other,” he says.

“Now I, at least, understand that everything that happens around me illegally. It is a pity, of course, that I am unfit for service”.

Russia is fighting an open war in Syria and hides its actions in Ukraine. Russians of military age argue whether to send them to fight in a hot spot. Some familiar friends are ready with enthusiasm to go to Syria.

“In Syria we do not conduct ground operations, and I hope we will restrict ourselves to operations in the air,” says Tokarev.

“And if Your son was sent to a hot spot unprepared?” — he asks.

Increased after the start of the war in Ukraine and annexation of Crimea patriotism began to influence the work of the “Committee of soldiers ‘mothers”, starting in 2014. The organization began to turn very rarely because the military will be more willing to tolerate complexity, to complain.

When the war in Ukraine has reached in the summer of 2014 peak, and dead Russian soldiers began to be buried secretly, with the organization began to contact by phone. Relatives of the soldiers, however, did not want to go to court because they are intimidated and silenced.

“For comparison, during the Chechen warrior hundreds of people sought assistance organizations”, — said Oksana Paramonova, the coordinator of the Committee.

Many contract soldiers who participated in military actions, appealed to the organization because the army had not paid full compensation for the contract service. In such cases, however, soldiers say that they themselves willingly participated in military actions during your vacation and not questioning their legitimacy.

“In practice they asked for free legal aid. To the protection of human rights is almost irrelevant” — according to Paramonov.

Until 2010 was prevalent when police and members of the army took young people to the service straight from home. Now, such cases are rare, because the volunteers became more.

“With regard to military terms, not much has changed,” says Paramonova.

The civil service is very hard to get, and the corruption and bullying is still very common. This year the organization has started to receive complaints of abuses and violence in the army.
