The President of the European Council Donald Tusk is convinced that the report of the Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel and President of France Emmanuel Makron will allow the EU for another six months to extend economic sanctions against Russia.
About this Tusk said in Brussels today at a press conference after the first session of the EU summit.
Traditionally, the German Chancellor and French President will make a report on the situation in Ukraine and state of implementation of the Minsk agreements. This will allow us to extend economic sanctions against Russia for another six months,” said Tusk.
As previously reported, European Union leaders will not discuss the extension of economic sectoral sanctions against the Russian Federation related to the implementation of the Minsk agreements, because the decisions by the permanent representatives of member countries of the EU.
Earlier it was reported that the European Union summit, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emanuel Makron will inform the leaders of States and governments on the status of implementation of the Minsk agreements, the decision on extending sanctions against Russia will be made later. In particular, the decision to extend the sectoral economic sanctions on Russia that are associated with the implementation of the Minsk agreements will be adopted by the European Union by written procedure, following the relevant recommendations of the German Chancellor and the French President.
