The Ukrainian government has still not submitted for consideration to the Verkhovna Rada the majority of laws in the sphere of intellectual property rights, which Ukraine undertook to adopt, in accordance with the terms of the deep and comprehensive free trade area (DCFTA). This is stated in the statement of the EU delegation in Ukraine, reports “Ukrainian truth”.
“In 2015, EU experts, working together with the Ukrainian authorities, has prepared corresponding bills. However, they are still under consideration by the Ministry of economic development and trade of Ukraine”, – said in a statement.
The Mission reminded that the Ukrainian party promised in September to send to the Parliament a package of 4 laws (collective management organizations, the establishment of the national office of intellectual property, on patents for inventions and utility models; copyright and related rights) and the laws (with whom the European Union has still not introduced) will be based on the bills prepared by the EU experts.
“The current situation of collective management organizations is causing irreparable harm to the legitimate interests of thousands of local and international right holders. The current legislation of Ukraine does not contain adequate standards to ensure the effective enforcement of intellectual property rights,” reads the statement.
Among the rare positive developments, there is a growing struggle against Internet piracy and the recently adopted law on cinema.
