The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko believes that it is necessary to declare at the national level competition of the project of the Memorial of Ukrainian heroes who gave their lives in the struggle for Ukraine’s independence.
“Recently I was approached by dozens of public organizations of veterans of the antiterrorist operation, which presented their vision of the Memorial complex. According to the authors of the appeal, the memorial should be placed in a historic place,” said Poroshenko, speaking at the opening of the photo exhibition “Fourth generation” at the National Museum of history of Ukraine during world war II on Monday.
The head of state reminded that earlier signed a decree on the establishment of a Memorial to Ukrainian heroes who gave their lives for freedom, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine. He noted that takes into account the opinion of public organizations about the construction of the Memorial and thank them for this initiative.
“Should be soon announced a nationwide contest that with your participation and will determine what should be the building of the Memorial and its content exhibits and artifacts,” he said.
According to him, the best place to put this Memorial will be the National Museum of history of Ukraine during world war II in Kiev.
“It is a place traditionally visited by hundreds of thousands of people, and the trail here will never stop. Thus, the whole area will be located where the national Museum of history of Ukraine during world war II, as well as the future Memorial to the participants of the ATO, should be a single Memorial to the Ukrainian heroes. You can assume that the political decision is taken,” – said Poroshenko.
