In all the churches of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church on January 21-22 pray for the repose of the souls of the fallen defenders of the Donetsk airport.
According to the information Center of the UOC, a circular letter sent to all diocese with the blessing of the Primate of the UOC his Beatitude Metropolitan Onufry.
“In connection with Day of memory of defenders of the Donetsk airport in all monasteries and parishes of Ukrainian Orthodox Church will be made Requiem for fallen soldiers”, – the document says.
According to the rector of the Metropolitan of the Holy resurrection Church the memory of the victims and veterans of Afghanistan Archpriest Sergei Yuschik, a joint prayer for the defenders of the Donetsk airport in all the churches and monasteries is honoring the dignity of soldiers.
“Praying for the defenders of the airport, we ask not only that the Lord grant them eternal memory. We pray that the Lord has given us eternal memory, so we don’t forget the tragic science of our history. We pray for the dead, and at the same time for those who live in despair over the loss of loved ones and dear people’s lives. We ask that the Lord Himself particularly comforted them,” – explained the rector of the Afghan Church.
As a priest of the UOC told about the peculiarities of Church funeral and prayers for the repose of the dead soldiers.
“War is pain, it is a tragedy, it’s trouble. And at the same time is a place of manifestation of the great possibilities of the human spirit, when man sacrifices his life for the lives of others, for the sake of peace in the state. And today we bow in front of these people, we pray for those who do not have time to live and poradovatsya his life, didn’t manage to continue loving each other their wives, did not have time to dote their children. We pray to the Lord for their sacrifice demonstrated in the performance of their duties to the end, gave them rest in the Mansions of the Kingdom of Heaven,” said Archpriest Sergei Yuschik.
At the same time, the priest said that the Church is grateful to the volunteers who were on the front line during the fighting for Donetsk airport, assisted living and took care of a decent respect to the dead.
“The Ukrainian Orthodox Church prays daily for the health of defenders of the Motherland and for the repose of those who never returned from the battlefield, and these days especially for the defenders of the Donetsk airport, which became a symbol of strength,” summed up Serge Yuschik.
As reported by the information Center of the UOC, at the end of 2016, the Primate of the UOC helped liberate from two-year captivity of the last Ukrainian “cyborg” – Taras Kolodiy.
In early 2017, during the Christmas holidays, the representatives of the “cyborgs” – friends released Taras Kolodiy, congratulated the Primate of the UOC Metropolitan Onufry and presented his Beatitude the flag of the defenders of the Donetsk airport.
