The reflex: if any famous person speaks with the understanding to address Adolf Hitler and the Third Reich, in the minds of most immediately POPs up in one word — autobahn. Even after 1945, in countless conversations on the topic, did national socialism is something “good”, always dominated by the highway, the construction of which national socialist propaganda in the spring of 1933 artfully represented the achievement of “führer and Reich Chancellor.”
So right-wing member of the ADG Bjorn Hecke has driven itself into a trap, although he never uttered the words autobahn in an interview with the Wall Street Journal. But after realizing what has been published from this conversation, heck said that his words were taken out of context. Then the American economic newspaper published a verbatim transcription of tape-recorded excerpt in German and in English translation. Now statements can be read in context.
Against Hitler Hecke said the following: “As from a logical and from a purely philosophical point of view, people can not only have a dark side.” Thuringian informed the representative of the ADG said: “Even in the worst offender-there must be something good, something worthy of love.” In reality there is no “absolute black and absolute white”.
So, you need to learn what “good” or “worthy” could commit Hitler. Along with reflective “highway” in this chain always contains three so-called achievements: the reduction of unemployment, protection of family values and the enhancement of internal security. These three points are not entirely random, ADG sees deficiencies in contemporary German politics.
Since the beginning of the summer of 1933 the highway was actively promoted as “the route of the Fuhrer”; on 23 September he took part in the symbolic start of construction of the facility in Frankfurt am main. Costly plans this project is ready for implementation, lay for months before coming to power of the NSDAP.
Two free intersections of the highway were already in operation in Germany: launched in 1921 in Berlin “the road to vehicular traffic and exercise” and inaugurated democratic chief mayor of Cologne, Konrad Adenauer August 6, 1932, the autobahn between Cologne and Bonn. The result of the actions of the national socialist government, the unemployment rate declined only in 1934, when statistics were not comparable with those of 1933, but beautifully calculated. So in 1934 the unemployment rate was announced for the year and for the summer — it was still $ 2.5 million. As the independent reports no longer existed, no one questioned these numbers, except for the banished members of the SPD, which are regularly in their “German messages” announced the deterioration of the social situation in Germany.
In fact, the level of wages in Germany since 1930 declined markedly in real terms by almost a quarter. Before the war the average wage did not reach the 1929 level. Still, these figures are also unreliable since they take into account many of the “old fighters” of the NSDAP in offices and public enterprises, which mainly was paid above the normal rate.
The total number of administrations increased between 1933 and 1937 by 71% from 700 thousand to 1.2 million government officials and employees. Most of them acted in the headquarters of the Nazi party as “state commissioners” or their employees, all these posts on closer examination turned out to be redundant: pure sinecures. Similar was the picture in the largest state enterprises: employment at the state Railways only since the beginning of the year 1933 to the end of 1934 increased from 616 thousand to 647 thousand officials, employees and workers, the postal service of the Reich at the same time — from 351 thousand to 383 thousand employees.
Do mass unemployment in Germany decreased only in 1935, after the return of conscription, one-year employment service and massive rearmament. In addition, many women were virtually forced out of the economy. The only reason why in 1939, actually reigned in full-time employment.
As was the case with family values? An indirect mention of this “achievement” of the Third Reich cost the former speaker of the Tagesschau Eva Herman (Herman Eva) in 2007. As Hecke, Herman complained that her words were taken out of context.
In 2012, the Federal constitutional court decided not to accept a constitutional appeal against Herman. The former speaker spoke against the article in the Hamburger Abendblatt newspaper, which is published by Axel Springer Verlag. She found that it incorrectly quoted. Das Blatt wrote that Herman considers the role of the mother in the Third Reich “very good”. Leading filed complaints in all instances and failed.
In any case, the assertion that national socialist Germany was highly placed family values is wrong. In July 1933 a law was passed on compulsory sterilization of persons with disabilities. Up to 400 thousand people were sterilized, almost all against their will, in the name of “the healthy heritage”. Raising children was strictly organized, militarized and ideologized Hitler youth and League of German girls.
Finally, internal security. Since 1934, crime statistics are no longer published. Controlled Newspapers have published many reports about the allegedly raged until 1933 crime was concealed, with the coming to power of the national socialists massively increased corruption and self-enrichment. In rare cases instituted legal proceedings against criminals, always members of the Nazi party — of course, without the submission of the report.
Even brutal measures of justice did not reduce the level of crime — serial killers, robbers and rapists commit their crimes in the Third Reich as well as before and after it. But instead of 184, the execution of death sentences from 1919 until the end of 1932 the German executioners spent more than 660 executions only from 1933 to 1939 almost exclusively for ordinary crimes. During the war the number of death sentences has dramatically increased, in total, more than 12 thousand — and almost always as a result of minor misconduct, or against the national socialist regime.
So, whoever will consider the time of Hitler’s rule more closely, you will not find grey areas in which it could flourish, “something good, something worthy.” There is no reason for the soft evaluation of the national socialist regime, which hinted Bjorn Hecke in his conversation with the Wall Street Journal in a supposedly “purely philosophical” perspective.
