Vitaly Churkin was born in 1952. In 1974 he graduated from Moscow state University, and then went to work in the Ministry of foreign Affairs of the USSR. The first few years he worked in the translation Department, and in 1980-ies it was transferred first to second and then first Secretary to the Embassy in the United States.

In 1989 Churkin has held the position of press Secretary of the Minister of foreign Affairs of the USSR, and in 1992 became Deputy Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia. He became the first Russian diplomat, who held regular public briefings for foreign journalists.

From 1994 to 1998, Churkin worked as the Russian Ambassador to Belgium and Russian representative to NATO, and from 1998 to 2003, he held the post of Russian Ambassador in Canada. Permanent representative of Russia to the UN, he became in 2006, prior to that, he was the Ambassador for special assignments of the Russian foreign Ministry.My condolences to the relatives Churkin expressed by foreign diplomats and colleagues at the Russian foreign Ministry.
