Today’s extraordinary session of the Verkhovna Rada is not the last in the Monday immediately after will be another: concerning the strengthening of responsibility for driving in an alcohol intoxication.

The speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Dmitry Razumkov signed a decree on convocation of an extraordinary meeting at the request of President Vladimir Zelensky.
“To convene an extraordinary plenary meeting of the Verkhovna Rada on July 13 immediately after the extraordinary plenary session of Parliament, convened in accordance with the decree of July 10, 2020 No. 239 on which to consider the draft law on amendments to some legislative acts of Ukraine concerning strengthening of responsibility for offences in the sphere of road safety (No. 2695)”, – stated in the order.
As a reminder, today’s conference call meeting with the President, interior Minister Arsen Avakov told that the bill increases the responsibility of drivers for committing a fatal road accident in an alcohol intoxication. In particular, the bill increases the penalties for driving while intoxicated, introduces penalties for leaving the scene of an accident and also reduces the field for manipulation to avoid responsibility.
The bill also proposes to exclude from the legislation the norms providing for the imposition of penalty points to allow police to record video of the intruder with the compulsory inclusion of such footage in the Protocol on administrative offense.
As reported by news of the “Today” Vladimir Zelensky responded to a terrible accident, which killed a whole family. He also noted that the urgency of adopting this bill caused a number of violations and serious accidents caused by drunk drivers.
