Such publications as “the Moscow times” and “Bulgarian military” (Indian Military) has published articles about the new Russian anti-aircraft missile system s-500 “Prometheus”. This system, as the authors of these publications provides effective protection against satellites, hypersonic weapons and other dangers, including in space.
The production of these SAMS will start before the original plans
Even fighter jets, made using the technology of invisibility “stealth” might prove easy prey for this system. The head of the Russian air force Colonel-General Sergey Surovikin called the s-500 “the first generation of anti-space defense systems”.
In fact, originally intended to adopt these systems in 2025, however, it is possible that it will be done this year.
“The s-500 can destroy almost all existing and noteworthy targets in near space and in the atmosphere, so it is able to solve strategic issues in the area of missile defense. In addition, this is a mobile system, which means that it can be rapidly involved in any threatened district,” — said Igor Korotchenko, Director of the “Center for analysis of world arms trade” (Center for the Analysis of World Arms Trade).
Used technologies outrun the rest of the world
In short, this anti-missile system is indeed “omnivorous” and, according to some experts, ahead of rival Western system for about 15 or 20 years. In 2019, the Chinese experts suggested that the s-500 is the most advanced sector of the Russian armed forces and, probably, armed forces around the world.
According to reports, the range of the system s-500 “Prometheus” is 600 miles, and President Vladimir Putin spoke even of the “stratospheric heights” (ultra-hohen Höhen). Based on these data, we can assume that s-500 can be used also for protection from meteorites and other celestial bodies.
