Ukrainian lawyers will win great power and a permanent member of the UN security Council and a major violator of international law
Ukraine has filed a lot of lawsuits against Russia – from the gas dispute and to violations of the law of the sea. Some have already been won, and some of the proceedings in full swing. At the same time, the foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said that Moscow is afraid of legal liability.
He said this in an interview to “RBC-Ukraine”.
He noted that he had set a goal for their team of legal advisers to bring Russia to account for violations of international law.
“I want the names of the legal advisers were inscribed in Golden letters in the history of international law. Because they are in the international courts will win great power and a permanent member of the UN security Council and a major violator of international law. We will provide a strong Memorandum on the international Maritime Tribunal. That is, “the fire goes according to plan,” we will work according to plan, clearly, firmly and with a constant aim of bringing to legal responsibility,” – said Kuleba.
The Minister said that the Russians are especially sensitive to all legal commits and processes. He explained why.
“Because I understand that politics is politics, it is a struggle of narratives. But if you “get” already legally, you will have to pay. For years will be hard legal arguments. And to counter political arguments against the law is much more complicated. So they will get a lot of attention to ensure that not to lose in such disputes,” – said the Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
As reported “Today”, the last major victory of Ukraine in the international courts was the dispute of “Naftogaz” and “Gazprom” on gas, which resulted in the Stockholm arbitration obliged the Russians to pay Ukraine a large sum. In December 2019, the New year, Gazprom paid Ukraine almost $ 3 billion. Ukraine, in turn, renounced any further claims to “Gazprom” for the sum about $ 12 billion.
