Ukraine hopes that Belarus will not tolerate a military threat from its territory during the Belarusian-Russian exercises “West-2017”. This was stated by the President Petro Poroshenko during a working trip to Kharkiv region.
He reminded that the Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko promised to Ukraine from the territory of his country will not attack.
“We pay great attention to the conduct of these exercises. We see the possibility of a threat, including for the territorial integrity of Ukraine. I can emphasize that during Lukashenko’s visit, we separately discussed this issue and received assurances that in any case from the territory of Belarus now or in the future will not be threats. And I hope that’ll keep my word, – said Poroshenko.

He recalled how in 2008 (invasion of Georgia) under the guise of the exercise was concentrated Russian equipment and later.
“We will closely monitor that all equipment which was introduced to the teachings, was removed and threats have been removed,” the President added.
Previously, Alexander Lukashenko said that the exercises “West-2017” are purely defensive in nature.
“West-2017” joint doctrine of the Armed forces of Russia and Belarus, scheduled from 14 to 20 September this year. According to official data of the Russian Federation, the exercise will be attended by up to 13 thousand troops.
