Poland may extend gas contract with Russia

Poland is ready to prolong the contract with “Gazprom” to buy gas, but that the Russian company should reduce the price. This was stated by the Minister of foreign Affairs of Poland Witold Waszczykowski in an interview to “Kommersant”.

“Maybe, Yes. But only if Russia will offer much lower price than today,” said Waszczykowski in response to the question whether Poland to renew the contract that expires January 1, 2020.

The Polish foreign Minister noted that Poland actively diversifitsirovat gas supplies. So, the country built LNG terminal and already buys gas from Qatar and the United States. Poland covers a third of gas demand through its own resources, and another third expects to receive through the LNG-terminal, and the remainder by pipeline from Norway.

“In June we already received one tanker of the United States. Technically possible, so now we are waiting for proposals of the Americans at the price. And we have already signed an agreement with Denmark and Norway to build the Baltic Pipe. This means that in five years we will be at least less dependent on Russian gas, and possibly even independent from him,” – said the Minister.
