Poroshenko has approved new penalties for animal abuse

President Petro Poroshenko has signed a law providing for increased penalties for cruelty to animals. This is stated on the page of the law No. 5119-1 on the website of the Verkhovna Rada, reports LIGA.net.

The law on amendments to some legislative acts of Ukraine (concerning the introduction of the humane treatment of animals) signed by the President today, August 1.

Amendments to the criminal code.

For cruelty to animals, if it was maimed or killed, pitting one animal to another public call for cruelty to animals provides for the detention for up to 6 months or restraint of liberty for a term up to 3 years.

Before such action was a penalty or arrest for a term up to 6 months.

For the same actions in the presence of a minor or minors, or committed repeatedly, or committed by a group of persons provides for imprisonment for a period of 5 to 8 years.

Prior to this, the increase of punishment was available only for the same actions in the presence of a minor, increase penalty or restriction of freedom for up to 2 years.

Earlier it was reported that the Parliament has strengthened criminal and administrative liability for cruelty to animals.
