Former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine John Herbst talked about a possible accession of Washington to the process of peaceful settlement of the conflict in the Donbass.
My opinion on this issue, he expressed in an interview with “Apostrophe”.
“I expect it. As I understand it, the President trump gave Tillerson order to work on this problem. Looks like trump and Tillerson agreed that they will appoint a special representative who will be responsible for this problem,” said Herbst. He also noted that the US initiative is supported by Russia, France and Germany.
“Even Russia, Yes. In Berlin I was three or four weeks ago and I was told that when Mrs. Merkel arrived in America a few months ago, she asked trump to appoint Ambassador” – said the diplomat.
Herbst suggested that the United States can find a new successful way to address the issue. It is therefore possible to create a new format instead of the Minsk process.
At the same time, the diplomat suggested that the special representative is likely to assume the functions of the former Commissioner of the state Department on Affairs of Europe and Eurasia Victoria Nuland.
