The Minister of foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius believes that the tightening of US sanctions against Russia may affect European Union’s decision on this issue.
“We have to be consistent, and sanctions – is not something we should be proud of…this is the last frontier when it is impossible to negotiate, but you probably also know how given this consensus. I hope that we will be consistent, if sanctions will be imposed, some policies from US – we always tried to coordinate our steps, and we always tried to coordinate our steps – I think it will also contribute to the decision we will make in the European Union”, – said the Minister on air of TV channel “112 Ukraine” on Thursday, commenting on the possible membership of Ukraine in NATO.
According to Linkevičius, if there were alternative forms of pressure on Russia, they could be considered, but now there are only sanctions.
“We should continue consistently, and if it is impossible to expand, at least to keep those (sanctions – Ed.) which take place. Because the reasons that imposed these sanctions not disappeared, and I don’t see that they had disappeared,” – said the Minister of foreign Affairs of Lithuania.
Recall, the U.S. Senate overwhelmingly approved a bill to expand sanctions against Russia.
